Wish I could try out that Crescent kayak. I think that is the one I'd really like.
Dan, thanks for the class….. Hey can you recommend a good lightweight life vest or jacket , I like the one you have a your video ..
Nice one great instruction, you translated the feel of it well
Your camera mount isn't janky; it's brilliant.
Great Video!
Thanks Dan always informative
I am only about two years late to this video, but this is fantastic…just bought a fishing kayak and decided to NOT get a peddle drive model just to save some money, and this is exactly what I needed to get started on correct paddling technique.
I don’t know if you’ve answered this already but I had a question on why your paddle is not exactly straight between paddle and paddle I noticed that my paddle has multiple positions I was wondering what’s the reason for this is?
I just bought 2 kayaks a sit on top and sit in, I am excited and nervous have not yet taken them out I wanted to watch some videos first thank you very helpful. I hope that my husband and I get a lot of enjoyment out of them
Great video! I'm a newie, and learned a lot from this video. Any thoughts on inflatable kayak? Thanks in advance
Super! I needed this. Thank you
Thanks very educational learned alot
I’m having issues when i paddle. the paddle hits the side of the kayak. I’m very Short waisted longer legs. I have a Pelican sit inside kayak what am I doing wrong or could I be on the wrong size kayak
I feel like I need to tump my kayak over and recover before I will feel more confident for some reason
I notice your blades are set at an angle to one another. Reason for this?
Excellent advices – thank you!
Did I miss you mentioning the different angles on the blades? I noticed they are offset. How do I figure that out? Thanks.
Where do you think the best place to locate outriggers for clearance for paddling
terrific! thanks!
Love it
I’m 5,1 my kayak is 10ft and a sit on top so of course my feet don’t touch the end of my seat, is that okay? Do I need the pedals? I’ve went out for multiple hours at a time and never was uncomfortable..
I am not a kayak fisher, but a sea kayaker and I find it great that you learn people the skills of kayaking. Very important, what you're doing here! Compared to kayaking in a sit-in kayak you probably have to use longer paddles because of the width of the kayak (which makes it far more important to use your legs and torso) and I also see that your angle between the blades is 70/80 degrees. Nowadays, in sit-in kayaks most people use angles from zero to 30 degrees and inuit style paddles with long, narrow blades. However, euro style paddles are better for sit on top kayaks (must say I personally prefer them also for sit-in kayaks as well). Greetings from the Netherlands to all of you kayakers, stay safe?
That launch is unreal haha!
This info is awesome !
I've been kayaking for 5 years now and 95 percent of this came instinctly/ through experience. But in another video you showed on paddles! I have to upgrade cause that paddle looks amazing ??.
1000 dollar budget spend 750 on the kayak 250 on the paddle sounds mad.
But I get it now!
I am new to the sport and this was great help! Thanks
Excellent tutorial. My only question is how do your paddle blades enter the water correctly when they are not lined up? I watched the entire video trying to see how you are twisting the paddle with each stroke to get each of those misaligned blades to enter the water at the correct angle each time.
For those of you wondering why I offset my paddles check out this video. https://youtu.be/6ga5UwxXIok
Thanks!! Great instructional presentation!!
Didn't even know pedal drive was a thing tbh
So glad I saw this after my first time kayaking. Thanks a lot! ??
I learned very basic instructions when I went kayaking with a friend. It was my first time on the water. I had fun but it’s nice to have clearer instruction.
I learned to kayak at school over 20 years ago need to get another haven’t been for 5 or so years
Just bough 2 kayaks. We’re retired and live on a small lake. The instruction was easy to understand and will help us get comfortable with our kayaks. Hoping we get good enough to eventually take them on the Boise and Snake rivers. New hobby in our 70’s. God has richly blessed us. Thx for your video.
Thank you for this video! Great tutorial. Just got into the sport last summer and no clue about properly paddling or that using a good paddle made a difference. How would I go about choosing what type of paddle to purchase? Will definitely be practicing the techniques you demonstrated.
Great video. Thanks.
Thanks, good information. How is the best way to get the correct length for a paddle?
Excellent
Do you think a newbie should start out with the paddle? Instead of the peddle drive?
Very good. I like the "pushing with your foot on the side you are paddling. I like the body rotation, but I noticed you were keeping your arms "straight", thus increasing paddle force when using body rotation. Could you help the ACA understand that. Their instructors, that paddle almost every day and have developed super arm strength. When they bend their elbows, they are not fully utilizing the affect of body rotation..
I have seen some kayaks have very small foot supports that limit the ability to "push with your foot".
Enjoyed your video.
Super helpful. Great explanation. Thank you.
Thank you for this video I am just getting into kayaking and this is the first real hey this is how you do this video I have found. All my friends have peddle drive kayaks and I don’t want to peddle. I have a bike if I want to peddle I want to paddle so it’s nice to have a good resource to watch and learn.
I notice your paddle blades are at different angles. I have mine at the same angle. Is this wrong or just personal preference?
Thank you for the instructional video. Looking to get in the water in an Oru Kayak Inlet for the first time soon. ?♂️
I noticed you have your paddles at opposing angles. Why? We just got our kayak and accessories and did not know whether to match angles or not. In use I noticed I was stronger with my right hand stroke. Would changing the paddle angles compensate for the difference? Triciaacv@gmail.com
excellent!
Hi Great video.. love to see more. just curious, I was looking up your paddle as its beautiful and has a larger surface as you mentioned. I noticed it was classified as a fishing paddle. I am fairly new to kayaking and this may sound dumb but does it matter if its classified as a fishing one verses rec? the rec ones have a smaller surface face. thanks for your time. if curious I have a tsunami 125 2021
What kind of life jacket is that?
Great video Dan. Really clear, accurate, and simple communication style. Makes it easy to learn. One thing I remember when I was learning is that “move the boat, not the paddle” by imagining planting the paddle in concrete, keeping it stationary. Then unwinding and rotating the torso to propel the boat forward, past the stationary paddle. Really helps to use the legs and bigger muscles of the upper body instead of the smaller arm muscles.
